Saudi heir receives officials after test in US

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) ? The state media in Saudi Arabia says Crown Prince Nayef, who is heir to the aging king, has received the country's senior officials in the United States, where he's been undergoing medical tests.

The Saudi Press Agency says the 78-year-old Nayef has received U.S.-based Saudi diplomats at his residence in Cleveland, Ohio. The report Wednesday does not say whether the prince finished taking what officials said were routine tests at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Nayef was named crown prince in October following the death of Prince Sultan.

He has served as interior minister for three decades in the oil-rich kingdom. Nayef is considered highly conservative and close to the hard-line Islamic clerical establishment that holds vast power in Saudi, a critical Western ally.
