The brother of a former EastEnders actress whose mutilated body was found floating in a London canal appeared in court on Monday charged with her murder.
The headless and limbless torso of Gemma McCluskie, 29, was found floating in Regent's Canal last week and her brother Tony, 35, was charged on Saturday night over her death.
He appeared handcuffed at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London accused of killing his sister between February 29 and March 6, and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
The defendant was remanded in custody and chair of the bench Cliff Lynn told him a bail hearing would take place at the Old Bailey within 48 hours.
Friends and former EastEnders colleagues had launched a search and Twitter campaign to find Gemma McCluskie after she vanished following an appearance at the high-profile opening of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel on March 1.
She appeared in more than 30 episodes of EastEnders in 2001 playing Kerry Skinner, a friend of Zoe Slater and the great-niece of the late Ethel Skinner.
Reports said she shared an east London home with her brother and mother at the time of her death.
