Obama Ad: Singing Romney Off Tune on Outsourcing Jobs

On Saturday, the Obama campaign continued its offensive against Mitt Romney attacking his?job record in a haunting new ad. To the tune of Mitt Romney singing ?America, the Beautiful? a cappella, the ad lists instances where?Romney?s businesses played a role in shipping American jobs overseas and highlights the presumptive GOP nominee?s reluctance to invest in?the US?by mentioning his offshore bank accounts in Switzerland, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands. The end of the ad reads, ?Mitt Romney?s not the solution. He?s the problem.?

This ad arrives at the end of a week where questions about Romney?s tenure at Bain have been raised, when he?s been chided for not releasing additional years of tax returns, and when he?s been?criticized repeatedly?for his offshore investments. Romney has been vacationing with family this week in New Hampshire.

Romney?s continued silence on issues, such as when exactly he stopped working at Bain, and why he won?t share more than one?year of tax returns, is starting to mirror the Democrats? narrative that he is secretive and has something to hide. Romney has been saying publicly that he left Bain Capital in February 1999 to start work on the Salt Lake Olympics. Reports now say that it wasn?t until 2002 that Romney had finalized a severance package. Disclosure forms in Romney?s run for governor of Massachusetts indicate that he received earnings as an ?executive? at Bain in 2001 and 2002.

If Romney releases the tax returns, a lot of the questions will go away, and it could give voters a sense of relief that he isn?t secretive and would govern more transparently. But if Romney continued to profit from a company that outsourced jobs and helped put Americans out of work, it may leave people wondering how committed he is to improving the economy and bringing jobs back to the country he says that he wants to lead.
