BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) -FIFA medical advisers are opposing the current design of a headscarf for Muslim women players.
Chairman of FIFA's medical committee Michel D'Hooghe says samples received from two designers "represented a danger" to players' health.
D'Hooghe says a group of doctors tested the scarves and believes that wearing them while playing football could lead to head and neck injuries. There is also fear of overheating.
Football's rule panel has said it will approve headscarves for female Muslim footballers after a pro-hijab campaign by FIFA executive committee member Prince Ali of Jordan.
However, the panel on Thursday asked for further medical advice before it meets July 2.
Modified designs are expected to arrive at FIFA "in the coming days," the Belgian doctor said.
