Speaker of the House John Boehner accused President Barack Obama of attacking religious freedom in a rare speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday over the contraceptives brouhaha.
?In recent days, Americans of every faith and political persuasion have mobilized in objection to a rule put forth by the Obama administration that constitutes an unambiguous attack on religious freedom in our country,? Boehner said, according to National Journal.
The rule Boehner is referring to requires employers ? even those affiliated with religions ? to provide health insurance covering contraceptives under the new health care law.
Boehner vowed to find a way to stop the ?flawed rule,? saying ?the House will approach this matter fairly and deliberately, through regular order and the appropriate legislative channels.?
?This rule would require faith-based employers ? including Catholic charities, schools, universities and hospitals ? to provide services they consider immoral,? he said. ?Those services include sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs and devices and contraception.?
