Grand Opening of 'Green' Facility for Curry Automotive on June 4 ...

A new "green" building will be officially opening next week as?Curry Automotive unveils its?Curry Hyundai and Subaru building on Route 6, on the border of Yorktown and Cortlandt Manor.?

The grand opening of the "close to zero environmental impact" building is scheduled for Monday, June 4.?

Components of the new facility include scrap steel, twisted metal, recycled plastics, even old tires and carpeting. Those are just some of the recycled materials that were transformed into tiles, wall coverings, and lighting grids. Oil collected from oil changes will heat the new facility.

Lighting automatically dims and brightens to make use of sunlight. Hundreds of other steps were taken to save energy and drastically reduce the new facility's impact on the environment, officials said.?

"Can we really afford not to take care of our own environment?" said Bernard F. Curry III, President and CEO of the company. "My family and our employees live here and we have been in business in this area for 93 years. The area and our impact on it are important to us and we hope others will follow our lead."

Curry Automotive is one of the largest employers in Westchester County. Local union craftsmen and labor were used to build the 25,000 square foot facility.

"Curry Automotive has taken pride in providing a stable work environment and great place to work locally and for a great many have a career close to home," officials said in a statement. "Many of the current employees at Curry Automotive have more than 15 years with the Curry Organization."

The company will also be starting a renovation and expansion of a new facility located on the same site as Hyundai and Subaru. Construction on the new facility for Curry Toyota will start later this year. There are also?plans to renovate ?and upgrade the historic Curry Chevrolet facility in Scarsdale.

Curry Automotive has nine dealerships in total ? seven franchises in Westchester County, two dealerships in Chicopee, Massachusetts Curry Honda of Chicopee and Curry Nissan of Chicopeeand Curry Honda in Atlanta, Georgia.
