An intense storm will move from the Southern Plains into the Mid-West and Great Lakes on Wednesday. This storm will most likely cease producing much severe weather in the form of tornadoes and thunderstorms, but will switch to a storm capable of bringing heavy snow to the northwestern Great Lakes and strong winds accompanied by heavy rain to much of the region.
This storm will also help to usher in much colder weather to the northern Plains as strong northerly winds on its back side draw cold Canadian air south of the border. To the southeast, a cold front will lose most of its moisture, and ability to produce thunderstorms, but will help bring an end to the pleasant weather seen by the Eastern interior recently. The coastal states will continue to see pleasant temperatures Wednesday, but cloudiness will rapidly move into the region in the afternoon.
In the West, a Pacific storm will begin to make its way into the Northwest. This storm will bring clouds and rain to coastal Washington, in the morning, with cloudiness pushing southward into California throughout the day, though rain should remain off the coast except for portions of Washington and Oregon.
Elsewhere in the West, conditions will be cool and dry, with mostly sunny skies throughout the Rockies and Southwest. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 3 degrees at Grand Canyon, Ariz. to a high of 92 degrees at Edinburg, Texas.
